영국계 나이지리아인나이지리아계[1][2] 영국인 또는 영국계 나이지리아인이다.

이 기사는 영국에 살고 있는 나이지리아 혈통의 주민들과 시민들에 관한 것이다. 많은 나이지리아인들과 그들의 영국 태생의 후손들이 남런던에 살고 있다. 그들은 이 나라에서 가장 큰 이민자 그룹 중 하나이다.[3]

역사

니제르인들은 런던, 리버풀, 그리고 다른 산업 도시들에 오랫동안 확립된 공동체를 형성해왔다. 가장 일찍 알려진 나이지리아의 런던 주둔은 대서양 횡단 노예 무역의 직접적인 결과로 200년 전에 이루어졌다. 지금의 나이지리아에서 태어나 노예였던 올라우다 에키아노는 런던에서 살았고 노예 무역 폐지를 둘러싼 영국에서 벌어진 논쟁에 관여했다.[4]

2001년 영국 인구 조사는 영국에 거주하는 나이지리아 태생인 88,378명을 기록했다.[11] 2011년 인구 조사에서는 191,183명의 나이지리아 출신 잉글랜드와 웨일스 주민을 기록했다.[8] 스코틀랜드북아일랜드의 검열은 각각 9,458명과 543명의 나이지리아 출신 거주자를 기록했다.[9][10] 통계청이 최근 발표한 2019년 추정치는 21만5000명이었다.[12]

유럽의회 보고서는 영국 내 10만 명의 나이지리아인을 대상으로 한 보고서를 제시했지만, 나이지리아 이외의 지역에서 태어난 불규칙한 이주민이나 어린이를 포함하지 않기 때문에 과소평가될 가능성이 높다고 시사했다. 마찬가지로, 그 후 영국으로 이주한 또 다른 EU 회원국의 시민권을 가진 나이지리아 사람들도 이 추정치에 반드시 포함되지는 않는다. 이 보고서는 영국 내 나이지리아 공동체의 규모를 반영하기 위해 이 수치를 3에서 8로 곱할 것을 제안하고 있다.[13]

분배

언어

2011년 잉글랜드와 웨일스에서는 1만4914명(3세 이상 전체 주민의 0.03%)이 요루바어를 주 언어로, 7946명(0.01%)이 이그보를, 6639명(0.01%)이 다른 나이지리아 언어를 구사했다.[28] 런던에서는 1만119명(3세 이상 전체 주민의 0.13%)이 요루바어를 주 언어로, 5,252명(0.07%)이 이그보를, 3,577명(0.05%)이 다른 나이지리아 언어를 구사했다.[29]

교육

공공정책연구소에 따르면, 나이지리아 학생들은 영국에서 가장 성적이 좋은 학생 그룹에 속한다. 2013년 IPPR 조사에서 영국계 나이지리아 학생의 2010~2011년 GCSE(수학과 영어 포함)에서 5A*~C 등급을 받은 비율은 영국계 평균인 59.6%보다 21.8%포인트 높았다. 이 평균은 가능한 경우 영국의 여러 지방 당국의 학생 데이터를 사용하여 계산했다.[30]
