현대미술관(MOCA)은 플로리다 주 노스 마이애미에 위치한 수집 박물관이다. 23,000평방피트(2,100m2)의 이 빌딩은 건축회사인 Gwathmey Sigel & Associates Architects에 의해 설계되었다.[1]

역사

현대미술관은 1981년 하나의 갤러리 공간에 현대미술관으로 출발했다. 1995년 영구 소장품 설립에 이어 1996년 새 건물을 개관했다. 이 박물관은 1993년부터 2013년까지 미술사학자, 큐레이터 보니 클리어워터가 관장했다. 클리어워터는 MOCA를 "교육 박물관"으로 여겼고, 그녀의 감독 하에 2012년 박물관 및 도서관 서비스[2] 부문 IMLS 국가 훈장을 받았다.[3][4]

MOCA는 빌 비올라,[5] 트레이시 에민,[6] 에두아르 두발-카리에, 버지니아 오버턴,[7] 푸르비스 영,[8] 완지 무투,[9] 마이클 리차드 [10]등 작가들의 개인전과 설문전을 선보여 왔다. 2008년에는 기사전 시리즈로부터 500만 달러의 기부금을 받아 신진 작가들의 작품 전시, 새로운 공공 프로그램 개발, 강화된 학교 프로그램 개발, 강연회, 공연, 영화 상영 등을 지원하였다.[11] MOCA의 옵티컬 네버는 영화에서 활동하는 신진 예술가들에게 중요한 포럼으로 인정받았다. 220명이 넘는 작가들이 이 시리즈에 출연했으며, 그들 중 많은 작가들이 처음으로 공개적으로 작품을 발표했다.[12][13]

2014년 가을, 박물관 이사회의 일부 구성원들이 분열하여 마이애미 디자인 지구에 새로운 예술 단체인 현대 미술 연구소를 설립하였다. 이 합의로, MOCA 700여 점의 약 70%가 MOCA의 소장품으로 남아 있었고, 200여 점의 작품은 새 기구가 소장하기로 되어 있었다.[14]

아웃리치

MOCA는 마이애미 주위에서 지역사회가 창의적인 표현을 더 나은 소통과 권한 부여를 위한 도구로 사용하도록 가르치는 몇 가지 다른 홍보 프로그램을 가지고 있다.[16] 'Women on the Rise!'는 사회정의기관에서 봉사하는 12~18세 소녀들을 중심으로 한 프로그램으로, 현대 여성 작가들의 작품과 전시회를 방문하고 유명 여성 작가들을 만나면서 신체 이미지, 관계, 문화에 대한 대화를 나누도록 유도한다.
