2016년 6월 16일 웨스트요크셔 버스톨에서 영국 노동당 바틀리와 스펜 의원(MP)이 총에 여러 차례 맞고 칼에 찔려 사망했다.2016년 11월, 53세의 토마스 알렉산더 메어는 테러 행위에서 그녀의 살인과 관련된 다른 범죄로 유죄 판결을 받았다.[1]판사는 메어가 나치즘과 그것의 현대적 형태와 가장 관련 있는 백인 우월주의와 배타적 민족주의를 발전시키고 싶어한다고 결론지었다.그는 종신형을 선고받고 종신형을 선고받고 종신형을 선고받았다.[2][3]

메어는 신파시스트 국민전선(NF), 미국에 본부를 둔 신나치 조직인 내셔널 뱅가드(탈영한 내셔널 얼라이언스의 후계자), 잉글랜드 디펜스 리그(EDL) 등 영국과 미국의 극우 정치단체들과 연계를 맺고 있었으며, 극우 모임에 참석하고 내셔널 뱅그에서 출판물을 구입했다.uard와 다른 아웃렛들 중 일부에게 편지를 보냈고 남아공 인종차별 정책에 대한 지지를 표명했다.[23][24][25][26][27][28][23]

그의 집에서는 나치 레갈리아, 극우 서적,[21][29] 폭탄 제조 정보 등이 발견됐다.[23][26]그는 영국 국민당이(BNP), 남 아프리카 공화국 아파르트 헤이트라는은 KKK, 유명한 유대인 사람들, matricide,[21][29]흰색 supremacism/nationalism, Nazism/Nazi, SS/Waffen SS, 이스라엘, 총기, 연쇄 살인범, 프레이저. 영국 주변에서 있었던 많은 사람들 중 하나인 배스 애비 밖에서 추모하는 밤샘이 열렸다.

여파

콕스의 죽음은 1990년 이스트본 하원의원 이안 고우임시 아일랜드 공화국군에 의해 살해된 이후 최초의 영국 하원의원 살해였으며,[124][125][126] 2010년 스티븐 탬스로쇼나라 추드리 암살 미수 사건으로 칼에 찔린 이후 최초의 심각한 폭행이었다.[127][128]선거구 업무를 수행하던 중 하원의원을 공격한 또 다른 예는 2000년 나이젤 존스에 대한 공격으로 그의 보좌관인 지역 의원 앤드루 페닝턴이 사망했다.[129]
