미국의 분석 및 자문 회사인 갤럽은 1946년 이후 대부분의 해가 끝날 무렵 미국에서 가장 존경받는 남녀를 가리기 위해 매년 여론 조사를 실시해 왔습니다.[1] 미국인들은 어떤 남녀가 "오늘날 세계 어느 지역에서 살고 있는지"에 대해 가장 존경한다고 말할 것을 재촉하지 않고 요구합니다.[2][3] 여론조사 결과가 톱10 리스트로 발표되었습니다. 대부분의 세월 동안, 가장 존경 받는 남성은 미국의 현직 대통령이었고, 가장 존경 받는 여성은 영부인이었습니다.[4]
