마이클 D. 보르도

마이클 데이비드 보르도(Michael David Bordo, 1942년 퀘벡 주 몬트리올 출생)는 캐나다 및 미국의 경제학자로서, 현재 러트거스 대학교의 이사회 교수 겸 저명한 경제학 교수다.^[1] 그는 미국 국립 경제 연구국의 연구 부교수일 뿐만 아니라 스탠포드 대학 후버 연구소의 저명한 방문 연구원이다.^[2] 그는 RePEC/IDEAS 순위에 따르면 세계에서 세 번째로 영향력 있는 경제사학자다.^[3] 그는 밀턴 프리드먼의 학생이었고 안나 슈워츠와 함께 수많은 책과 기사를 공동 저술했다.

교육

보르도는 1942년 퀘벡 주 몬트리올에서 태어났다. 보르도는 1963년 맥길대에서 학사학위를 받은 뒤 런던경제대학원에서 경제학 석사과정을 마쳤다.^[4] 그는 시카고 대학에 진학하여 1972년 밀턴 프리드먼의 감독하에 박사학위를 취득했다.

경력 및 기여

보르도는 1969년부터 1980년까지 오타와 칼레톤 대학에서 경력을 쌓기 시작했다. 1981년부터 1989년까지 보르도는 럿거스 대학의 경제학 교수 역할을 맡기 전에 사우스 캐롤라이나 대학의 경제학 교수였다.^[5] 보르도는 현재 뉴브런즈윅주 럿거스 대학교의 경제학과 교수 겸 통화금융사 센터장을 맡고 있다.^[6]

그는 중앙 은행과 국제 통화 기관(IMF, 연방 준비 은행, 세인트 은행 포함)뿐만 아니라 전 세계 대학(캘리포니아-로스앤젤레스, 프린스턴, 하버드, 캠브리지, 런던 경제 대학 포함)에서 많은 방문직을 맡았다. 루이스, 클리블랜드, 연방준비제도이사회, 캐나다은행, 영국은행, 국제결제은행(Bank of England and Bank for International Consolution) 등.^[7] 그는 독립된 경제학자 모임인 '섀도 오픈 마켓 위원회'의 일원으로, 통화 정책에 대한 견해에 대해 화폐론적 대안을 제시한다.

He has been and is on the editorial board of numerous academic journals, including the International Journal of Central Banking, the Journal of International Money and Finance, the Journal of Economic History and Explorations in Economic History. His research focuses mainly on economic and financial history, monetary economics and history of economic thought. He has written extensively on exchange rate regimes such as the Gold Standard and the Bretton Woods system. Another area of expertise is the Great Depression and financial crisis in general. He also researches globalization in historical perspective.
