비탈은 꽃이 피는 식물순서다. APG III 시스템(2009년) 이후로는 비테스과가 자체 순서인 비탈레스(Vitales)로 배치된다. 분자 계통생성학 연구는 비탈레스를 로시드의 가장 기초적인 층으로 배치한다.[1] 연탄은 꽃과 같은 생식 구조를 가진 식물 세사의 그룹이다. 그것들은 이전에는 꽃과 같은 구조를 가진 식물들로 구성된 쇄설물로 생각되었다. 이 그룹에는 그네탈레스와 멸종된 베넷티탈레스뿐만 아니라 장미과 같은 현존하는 꽃식물인 혈관종도 포함되어 있었다.[2]

The 2018 South African National Biodiversity Institute's National Biodiversity Assessment plant checklist lists 35,130 taxa in the phyla Anthocerotophyta (hornworts (6)), Anthophyta (flowering plants (33534)), Bryophyta (mosses (685)), Cycadophyta (cycads (42)), Lycopodiophyta (Lycophytes(45)), Marchantiophyta (liverworts (376)), Pinophyta (conifers (33) 및 Pteridophyta(크립토감(408)).[5]
