미국 인구조사국이 정의한 리마 메트로폴리탄 통계 지역은 북서 오하이오 주에 있는 앨런이라는 한 카운티로 구성된 지역이며, 리마시가 정박하고 있다. 2000년 인구조사 기준, MSA의 인구는 10만8473명(2009년 7월 1일 추정)이었다.[1]

역사

리마 메트로폴리탄 지역은 1950년에 처음 정의되었다. 당시 리마 표준 대도시권(리마 SMA)으로 알려진 이 도시는 알렌이라는 하나의 군으로 구성되어 있으며, 인구는 88,183명이다.[2][3] 1959년 예산국(현행 관리예산국)의 임기 변경에 따라 리마 SMA는 리마 표준 대도시 통계 지역(리마 SMSA)이 되었다.[4] 1960년 인구 조사에 따르면, 인구는 103,691명으로 증가했는데, 이는 이전 인구 조사에 비해 18% 증가한 것이다.[3]

1971년에 리마 SMSA에 푸트남과 반 워트라는 두 개의 카운티가 추가되었다.[5] 아우글라이즈 카운티는 1973년에 SMSA의 일부가 되었다.[6] 이 밖에 1980년 인구조사 때 수도권에 거주하는 주민은 총 21만8244명이었다.[3]

1983년에는 공식 명칭이 리마 메트로폴리탄 통계 지역(리마 MSA)으로 단축되어 현재까지 사용되고 있다.[4] 같은 해 푸트남과 반베르트는 MSA에서 제거되어 앨런과 아우글라이즈 군만 정의된 지역에 남게 되었다.[7] 리마 MSA는 1990년에 154,340명의 인구를 가지고 있었다.[3] 이 수치는 2000년까지 155,084명으로 증가했다.

2003년 아우글라이즈 카운티는 리마 대도시권에서 해제되어 와파코네타 마이크로폴리탄 통계지역(Wapakoneta μSA)으로 재지정되었다.[8]
