2007년 이전 올해의 얼터너티브 스포츠인으로 알려진 올해의 액션 스포츠인 Laureus World Sports Award for the Year of Action Sports Person은 매년 액션 스포츠계의 개별 선수들의 업적을 기리는 상이다.2000년에 Laurus World Sports Awards에서 수여된 7개 시민상 중 하나로 처음 수여되었다.[1]이 상은 50만 명의 젊은이들을 지원하는 150개 이상의 자선 사업에 관련된 세계적인 단체인 Laurus Sport for Good Foundation이 수여한다.[4]제1회 기념식은 2000년 5월 25일 몬테카를로에서 열렸는데, 그 곳에서 넬슨 만델라가 기조연설을 했다.[5]수상 후보작은 전문가 패널에서 발표된다.[1]이어 로리어스 세계스포츠 아카데미는 세계 각지에서 열리는 연례 시상식에서 카띠에가 만든 로리어스 스타튜트를 수여하는 수상자를 선정한다.[6]이 상은 매우 권위 있는 상으로 여겨지며, 종종 "오스카"와 동등한 스포츠로 일컬어진다.[7][8][9]
