지오 라이프(LYO LYF)라고도 알려진 라이프(LYF)는 지오가 개발하고 인도 뭄바이에 본사를 둔 인도의 스마트폰, 노트북, 가전제품 브랜드다. 안드로이드에서 구동되는 4G 기반 VoLTE 스마트폰을 제조한다.[1][2][3] 릴라이언스인더스트리즈의 통신 계열사인 지오의 자회사다.[4]

카운터포인트리서치에 따르면 LYF는 2016년 인도에서 스마트폰 5위, LTE폰 2위 업체였다.[5][6][7]

역사

LYF는 2015년 통신사업자 지오가 설립했다. 지오의 4G 서비스와 함께 밀접하게 시판된 이 브랜드의 스마트폰은 2015년 11월에 출시될 예정이었다.[8] 2016년 1월에는 어스·불꽃(불꽃), 물·바람의 4대 요소 이름을 딴 4G 스마트폰 1세트를 출시했다.[9][10]

시장

2016년 5월 국제시장 추적기 카운터포인트 리서치는 LYF가 2015~16년 1~3월 분기에 7%의 점유율을 차지하며 인도 시장 5위의 스마트폰 생산국이 됐다고 보도했다. 분기 중 마이크로맥스와 레노버를 제치고 삼성에 이어 두 번째로 큰 LTE폰 공급사였다. 카운터포인트의 타룬 파탁 수석 애널리스트는 보고서에서 "LYF는 출시 1분기에 인도 내 스마트폰 판매량 상위 5개 브랜드로 단숨에 올라섰다"고 말했다.[5] 릴라이언스 디지털은 2016년 1분기에 약 170만 대의 LYF 브랜드 스마트폰을 출하했다.[6]

2015년 10월 LYF는 국내 단말기 제조사 인텍스와 손잡고 음성 LTE(VoLTE) 기능을 탑재한 4G 단말기를 공급했다.[12] 2016년 1월 첫 스마트폰인 LYF 어스 1, LYF 워터 1, LYF 워터 2세트를 출시했다.[13][14][15][16]

생산

LYF 스마트폰은 CK텔레콤유한공사, 윙테크, 위코 등 ODM은 물론 중국 단말기 제조사인 ZTE, 인텍스가 제조하고 있다.[17] 2016년 초 현재 ZTE가 LYF에 공급한 스마트폰은 60만 대인 것으로 알려졌다.[18]

분배

LYF폰은 소매점을 통해 직접 판매된다.[19] LYF는 2016년 2월 앱 기반 배달 서비스 그로퍼스, 온라인 유통업체 아마존과 묶어 이용자에게 휴대전화를 전달했다.[20][21]
