역사

1925년 10월 8일 전세난 걸프코스트코스트웨이社가 2년간 150만 달러의 민간개발 투자공약의 일환으로 코퍼스 크리스티와 파드르 섬을 거쳐 브라운스빌을 잇는 유료도로 건설을 제안했던 1920년대로 거슬러 올라간다.[2] 이후 이 섬에 페리 접근을 제공한 브라조스 드 산티아고 패스 페리 회사를 이전에 전세 냈던 카메론 카운티 보안관 샘 A. 로버트슨 대령은 1927년 개인 자본을 활용해 돈 패트리시오 코즈웨이를 건설했다.[2] 이전 섬의 주인 패트릭 던의 이름을 따서 명명된 이 유도는 4개의 평행 나무 수조들로 이루어져 있으며, 타이어를 넣어 당시의 표준 자동차들이 횡단할 수 있도록 간격을 두고 떨어져 있었다.[3] 이 유도는 1927년 7월 4일에 개통되었고 1933년 쿠바-브라우스빌 허리케인에 의해 9월 5일에 파괴되었다. 그것은 재건되지 않았다.[4]

제1교량

포트 라바카에 본사를 둔 바우어 스미스 준설 회사는 1949년 2월에 첫 번째 다리에서 공사를 시작했으며, 이 사업은 170만 달러의 공적 채권으로 자금을 지원받았다.[1][2] 길이 4.5마일[2] 상승된 이 도로 구조물은 1950년 6월 17일 유료도로[1] 개통되어 원래 북파드레아일랜드 코즈웨이(North Padre Island Causway)라고 불렸으며, 1963년 11월 26일 케네디 대통령이 4일 전 댈러스에서 암살된 이후 누에체스 카운티 관리들이 이름을 바꾸었다.[1] 통행료는 1967년 10월 31일에 없어졌다. 누에체스 카운티는 1968년 1월 1일 이 다리의 소유권을 텍사스고속도로대중 교통부에 넘겼다.[1]

현재교량

교량 통행이 증가함에 따라 유도를 따라 있는 내부 수로 위의 스윙 교량 교체 필요성도 증가했다. 1970년부터 준설이 시작되었고, 에폭시 수지와 결합한 프리캐스트 세그먼트들을 외부로부터 운반하여 건설한 250만 달러짜리 다리가 완공되어 1973년 6월 28일에 정식으로 헌납되었다.[1][5] 새 다리는 미국에서 건설된 최초의 포스트 텐션 콘크리트 세그먼트 박스 거더 교량이다.[5][6]
