이언 맥페드란(Ian McPheedran, 1957년 출생)은 오스트레일리아의 작가 겸 은퇴한 언론인이다. 캔버라 타임즈에서 저널리즘 경력을 시작한 그는 1998년부터 헤럴드 선, 데일리 텔레그래프, 노던 준주 뉴스뉴스코프 호주 마스트헤드의 변호사로 일하다가 2016년 1월 은퇴를 선언했다. 하퍼콜린스는 1999년 워크리상을 수상한 맥페드란의 책 8권을 출간했다.

경력

1998년 이전에 맥페드란은 캔버라 타임즈의 외교 및 국방 작가였다.[1] 1998년과 2016년 사이에 그는 2016년 1월 은퇴를 선언하기 전에 헤럴드 선, 데일리 텔레그래프, 노던 영토 뉴스 등 출판물에 글을 쓰면서 국방 작가인 호주 뉴스로 일했다.[2]

맥페드란은 2003년 이라크전쟁이 시작될 때 바그다드에서 메르디앙팔레스 호텔에 머물며 전쟁에 대해 보고했다.[3] 맥페드란은 ABC 사진기자 폴 모란이 2003년 10월 23일 이라크 북동부에서 자살 차량 폭탄 테러로 사망한 직후 이라크 정부에 의해 이라크에서 추방되었다.[4][5] 맥페드란은 이라크 관리들이 그가 민병대 없이 정보부 청사를 방문하기 위해 호텔을 나섰을 때 규정을 지키지 않았다고 비난했다고 보도했다.[6][7][8][9]

가족 및 개인 생활

영국계 버마 난민 아버지인 콜린 맥페드란과 호주인 어머니 사이에서 태어난 장남 맥페드란은 뉴사우스웨일스 남부 고원보우랄에서 자랐다.[12][13]

맥페드란은 언론인 베로나 버지스와 결혼했다. 그들은 시드니 발맹에 산다.[6]

이언 맥페드란의 아버지 콜린이 베로나 버지스의 편집 보조로 쓴 책 '화이트 나비'는 콜린이 일본의 버마 침공을 피해 제2차 세계대전 중 버마에서 인도까지 도보로 여행한 이야기를 담고 있다. 당시 11살이었던 콜린은 어머니와 두 남매와 함께 여행을 떠났지만 그만이 살아남았다.[14]
