초기 생활과 교육

모건은 1900년 10월 24일 영국 런던에서 존 피어폰트 모건 주니어와 제인 노턴 모건 사이에서 태어났다.그의 아버지는 존 피어폰트 모건 시니어 (1837–1913)의 아들이었고, 어머니는 보스턴 은행가이자 제분소 주인 헨리 스터기스 그로우 (1833–1910)의 딸이었다.그는 그로튼 스쿨에서 교육을 받았고 [citation needed]1923년 하버드 대학을 졸업했습니다.

Personal life

On June 26, 1923,[3] he married Catherine Frances Lovering Adams (1902–1988), daughter of Frances Lovering and Charles Francis Adams III, the U.S. Secretary of the Navy under Herbert Hoover,[4] and a descendant of U.S. Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams.[5] The couple had five sons:

He died on February 8, 1982, in Manhattan, New York City at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.[1][12]

Activities and interests

Morgan was trustee, president and chairman of The Morgan Library & Museum, served on the boards of J.P. Morgan & Co., General Electric and Pullman Company, served as trustee of the Groton School and Museum of Modern Art and member of the Harvard Board of Overseers. During World War II, Morgan was a commander in the Naval Reserve and served as an OSS Agent.[citation needed]

Like his father, brother and grandfather, he was the Commodore of New York Yacht Club where he served as chairman of its America's Cup Committee. He was also vice president of the International Yacht Racing Union. He was a member of the Bohemian Club, the Council on Foreign Relations, Community Service Society of New York, the Pilgrims Society and the Roxburghe Club.[citation needed]

Morgan was posthumously inducted into the America's Cup Hall of Fame in 2001.[13]
