구멍의 제1법칙, 즉 구멍의 법칙은 "구멍 속에 있으면 파지 말라"는 격언이다.[1][2][3][4] 구멍을 파면 더 깊어지고 따라서 빠져나오기가 어려워지는데, 이는 방어할 수 없는 위치에 있을 때는 상황을 더 악화시키는 것을 중단하는 것이 최선이라는 비유로 쓰인다.[5][6] 더 일반적으로, 그것은 사람들이 스스로 만드는 문제를 어떻게 해결해야 하는지를 조언한다.
