바크티아르 칼지라고도 알려진 이크티야르 알-딘 무아마르 칼지(Ikhtiyar al-Dīn Muhiamad Bakhtiyar Khaljī)[1]는 인도 동부 벵갈비하르 지역의 무슬림 정복을 주도하고 그들의 통치자로 자리매김한 투르코-아프한[4][5] 군사 장군이었다.[2][3][6][7][8][9]

초년기

Bakhtiyar Khalji는 오늘날 아프가니스탄 남부 헬만드Garmsir에서 태어나고 자랐다. 그는 200년 넘게 아프가니스탄 남동부에 정착한 후 파슈툰화[18] 과정을 거치고 있던 투르크 출신 부족인 [14][15][16][17]칼라지족의 일원으로, 결국 질지족이 탄생하게 되었다.[19][20][21][22]

상승하다

죽음과 후폭풍

이크티야르 알-딘 무아마드 칼지는 1206년 티베트를 공격하기 위해 데브코트 마을을 떠났고, 고라하트 우파질라알리 마르단 칼지는 바리살 본부에서 동부 국경 지역을 감시하게 되었다. 칼지 부대는 낯선 산악 지형을 뚫고 티베트 원정을 하던 중 첨비 계곡에서 티베트 게릴라 부대의 손에 참담한 패배를 당했고, 이로 인해 칼지 부대는 후퇴할 수밖에 없었다. 그 후 칼지는 100여 명의 생존 병사를 거느리고 데브코트로 돌아왔다. 데브코트에 병들어 누워 있던 이크티아르 칼지가 돌아오자 알리 마르단에게 암살당했다.[31][32]

그 후 칼지 귀족들은 무함마드 시란 칼지를 바크티야르의 후계자로 임명했다. 시란 칼지 휘하의 충성스러운 군대는 알리 마르단을 감옥에 가두면서 이크티아르의 죽음에 복수했다. 결국 알리 마르단은 델리로 도망쳐 델리 쿠트브 알딘 아이바크의 술탄을 자극하여 벵갈을 침공하였다. 알리 마르단은 오우드 총독 카예마즈 루미와 함께 돌아와 시란을 퇴위시켰다. 시란은 디나즈푸르로 달아났고 그곳에서 그는 나중에 죽었다.[33] 기야스우딘 이와즈 칼지가 후계자가 되었다. 알리 마르단은 탈출하여 쿠트브우딘 아이박에 의해 벵골 총독이 되었으나 1212년에 살해되었다. 기야스우딘은 다시 권력을 장악하고 독립을 선언했다.[34]

레거시
