돌리콜-11로도 알려진 박토프레놀은 특정 유산균 종에서 처음 확인된 지질이다.[1]그람 양성 박테리아에서 세포벽(펩티도글리칸)의 성장에 핵심적인 역할을 하는 소수성 알코올이다.[2]null

발생

박토프레놀은 메발론산에서 합성된 지질로서 특정 유산균 종에서 발견되는 가장 풍부한 지질이다.[1]박토프레놀은 중상막과 플라즈마 막 모두에서 발견된다.[4]메소솜과 플라즈마 박토프레놀은 서로 독립적으로 합성된다.[5]null

함수

박토프레놀은 펩티도글리칸 모노머를 혈장막을 통해 순환시키고 박테리아 세포벽의 성장점에 이 모노머를 삽입함으로써 그램 양성 박테리아 세포벽의 세포벽 형성에 핵심적인 역할을 한다고 생각된다.[6]null

항생제 의의

박토프레놀은 세포 성장에 매우 중요하기 때문에, 수많은 항생제 화합물이 박토프레놀 매개 이동 경로를 교란시켜 기능한다.[7]이 전략은 프리울리미신 B의 항생제 메커니즘을 연구함으로써 처음으로 규명되었다.[8]이후 니신[9], NAI-107랜티바이오틱스 등 유사한 메커니즘을 사용하는 다른 항생제가 확인됐다.[10]
