아놀드 K. 가르

Arnold K.

아놀드 켄트 가르(Arnold Kent Garr[1], 1944년 6월 14일 출생)는 2006년부터 2009년까지 브리검영대학교(BYU)의 교회사 및 독트린 학과장을 맡았다. 그는 또한 후기 성인 역사 백과사전 편집자였다.

전기

가르는 유타주 오그덴에서 태어나고 자랐다. 젊은 시절, 가르는 핀란드의 예수 그리스도의 교회(LDS Church of Late-day Saints, LDS Church)에서 선교 활동을 했다. 가르는 1967년 11월 20일 솔트레이크 사원에서 체리 번즈와 결혼했으며, 그들은 다섯 아이의 부모다.[2][3]

LDS 교회에서 가르는 다른 부르짖음들 중에서도 주교, 지분을 가진 대통령의 상담자, 지분을 가진 고등 평의회 의원, 지부장을 역임했다. 2001년부터 2009년까지 교회상관위원회 위원으로 활동했다.

말년에 가르는 달리기를 시작했고 그는 60세가 된 후 11번의 마라톤을 완주했다.[3]

교육

가르는 1986년 BYU에서 LDS 교회사를 전공한 웨버 주립 대학교에서 역사학 학사, 유타 주립 대학교에서 역사학 석사, 미국 역사학 박사 학위를 받았다.[2][3]

경력

가르는 유타주 로이 고등학교의 신학교 교사로 교회교육시스템(CES)에서 경력을 시작했다. 이후 뉴욕 로체스터, 콜로라도 볼더, 플로리다 탈라하시 등지에서 종교 연구소 소장을 지냈다. 가르는 CES에서 21년을 보낸 뒤 1991년 BYU 교수진에 합류했다.[4][3] 그는 1996-97년 BYU 예루살렘 센터에서 가르쳤으며, 이후 교회 역사 및 교리학과장을 맡았다.[3]
