조지아에서의 낙태임신 12주 이내에 요청하면 합법이다. 12주에서 22주 사이에, 낙태는 후생노동사회부가 수립한 조건 하에서 의학적인 이유로 행해질 수 있다. 22주 후 낙태는 추가로 3명으로 구성된 의료위원회의 승인을 받아야 한다. 낙태를 관리하는 법은 2000년에 제정되었다.[1][2]

조지아의 낙태율은 1992년 1544세 여성 1000명당 41.1건에서 1996년[3] 21.9건, 2005년 19.1건으로 1990년대 들어 급격히 떨어졌다.[4] 이러한 감소는 현대적인 피임약의 사용이 증가했기 때문이라고 한다.[5][6]

2010년 기준 낙태율은 15~44세 여성 1000명당 26.5건으로 세계 최고 수준이다.[7] 그러나, 다른 방법으로, 2005년과 2010년 사이에 낙태가 떨어졌다: 2005년 한 연구는 조지아에서 여성들이 평균 3.1번의 낙태를 경험했고, 그 다음이 세계에서 가장 높은 비율이라는 것을 발견했다; 2010년까지, 그 수치는 1.6번의 낙태로 떨어졌다.[6]

대부분의 조지아인들은 합법적인 낙태에 반대한다. 2013년 코카서스 바로미터 여론조사는 69%의 조지아인들이 낙태가 결코 정당화될 수 없다고 믿는다는 것을 발견했다.[8] 2017년 5월 발표된 퓨 리서치센터의 여론 조사 결과 대부분의 경우 또는 모든 경우에서 합법적인 낙태에 찬성하는 비율은 10%에 불과했다.[9]

2005-2009년 데이터를 조사한 결과, 여성 100명당 121명의 남성이 태어났을 때 성비율이 발견되어 성 선택적 낙태가 일어날 수 있음을 시사했다.[10]
