2020-21 란지 트로피는 인도 최고의 크리켓 토너먼트인 란지 트로피의 87번째 시즌이 될 예정이었습니다.[1] 사우라슈트라는 디펜딩 챔피언이었습니다.[2] 그러나 2021년 1월 인도 크리켓 관리 위원회(BCCCI)는 코로나19 범유행으로 인해 시즌이 취소되었음을 확인했습니다.[3] 1934-35 시즌 대회가 시작된 이래 처음으로 란지 트로피가 열리지 않았습니다.[4]
배경
코로나19 팬데믹이 시작되기 전 대회 형식 변경안이 BCCI에 제출돼 엘리트 팀을 3개가 아닌 5개 그룹으로 나눠 경기 수를 줄였습니다.[5] 그러나 2020년 6월, BCCI는 대회 구조에 어떠한 변화도 일어나지 않을 것이라고 부인했습니다.[6] 또한 6월, 국립 크리켓 아카데미의 크리켓 책임자인 라훌 드라비드(Rahul Dravid)는 팬데믹으로 인해 인도 국내 시즌이 늦게 시작되거나 단축될 수 있다고 제안했습니다.[7] 2020년 7월 19일, 타임스 오브 인디아는 란지 트로피가 2020-21년 인도 크리켓 시즌에 열리는 유일한 시니어 국내 크리켓 토너먼트가 될 것이라고 보도했습니다.[8][9] 2020년 8월, BCCI는 란지 트로피 개최가 "우선순위"임을 확인했습니다.[10] 그 다음 달, BCCI는 크리켓이 열리지 않을 가능성을 포함하여 팬데믹으로 인해 국내 크리켓 시즌이 심각하게 축소될 수 있다고 경고했습니다.[11]
