게이 게임즈 9로도 알려진 2014 게이 게임은 특히 레즈비언, 게이, 양성애자, 트랜스젠더(LGBT) 운동선수, 예술가, 음악가들에 의해 조직된 국제적인 멀티 스포츠 이벤트 및 문화 모임이었다.[1] 2014년 8월 9일부터 8월 16일까지 클리블랜드에서 열렸으며, 인근 오하이오 애크론 시에서 일부 행사가 열렸다. 약 60개국에서 온 약 1만 명의 선수들이 37개의 스포츠와 문화 행사에 참가했다.

게이 게임 연맹에 따르면, 14개 도시가 이 대회 개최에 관심을 표명했다. 2008년 10월 28일 케이프타운에서 열린 연례 회의에서 FGG는 미국의 4개 도시가 마감시한을 정했고, 따라서 경기를 개최하기 위한 준비를 하고 있다고 발표했다. 보스턴, 클리블랜드, 마이애미, 워싱턴 D.C. 이들 도시 중 보스턴, 클리블랜드, 워싱턴 D.C.는 마감일까지 입찰서를 제출했다. FGG는 2009년 9월 29일 독일 쾰른에서 열린 연례 회의에서 클리블랜드를 개최 도시로 선정했다.[2][3][4]

개회식

개막식은 8월 9일 토요일 오후 7시에 Quicken 대출 아레나에서 시작되었다. 시상식에는 가수, 댄서, 라디오 진행자인 랜스 배스, 브로드웨이 여배우 안드레아 맥아들, 글리 출신알렉스 뉴웰, 전 올림피아 출신 그렉 루가니스, 그리고포인터 시스터즈 등이 출연했다. 버락 오바마 미국 대통령이 깜짝 비디오 출연을 했다.[8][9]
