2009년 뉴욕 제23대 의회 선거구의 특별 선거는 2009년 11월 3일 공화당의 존 맥휴의 후임자를 선출하기 위해 실시되었습니다. 맥휴는 2009년 6월 2일 미국 육군 장관 후보로 지명되었고, 2009년 9월 21일 상원의 인준을 받고 뉴욕의 제23대 의회 선거구의 대표직을 사임했습니다.[1][2]

민주당노동가족당은 사업가 겸 변호사오웬스를, 뉴욕 보수당은 사업가 겸 회계사 더그 호프만을 각각 지명했습니다. 공화당독립당은 선거[3] 사흘 전 경선에서 기권하고 오웬스를 지지한 데데 스코자파바 주의원을 지명했습니다.[4] 선거일에 오웬스는 호프만을 이겼습니다.[5]

배경

후보자들

공화당

공화당 의원 7명이 출마 의사를 밝혔습니다.[21] 다른 세 명의 공화당[22][23][24] 의원들은 잠재적인 후보로 여겨졌지만 출마를 거부했습니다.

공화당 후보로는 데데 스코차파바 의원이 지명됐습니다. 2009년 10월 31일, 스코차파바는 선거운동을[25] 중단하고 11월 1일 민주당 후보를 지지했습니다.[26]

민주당
